OCP releases the SST (Solid-State Transformer) v0.3.0 Specification, jointly authored by Google, Microsoft, and NVIDIA. It defines a megawatt-class power conversion platform designed for AI data centers, converting medium voltage directly to 800V DC. Utilizing wide-bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) to replace traditional line-frequency transformers, the equipment converts $13.8\text{ kV} / 34.5\text{ kV}$ medium-voltage AC directly into an $800\text{ V}$ DC output, achieving a conversion efficiency of $\ge 98\%$ within the 50%–100% load range.
The specification provides a comprehensive definition of the hardware architecture, electrical interfaces, voltage/frequency ride-through (VRT/FRT) capabilities, system-level state machines, and environmental/mechanical requirements. It also offers multiple LVDC power distribution topology references, including $N+C$ module redundancy and distributed redundancy. When paired with energy storage, the SST functions as a medium-voltage UPS with strong grid-interaction capabilities. Designed to standardize 800V DC distribution, the platform increases power density, power supply reliability, and green sustainability in computing facilities while facilitating multi-vendor interoperability.
